Interview with Juan Manuel Castro Prieto: "I’m interested in exchanging thoughts and knowledge"

Juan Manuel Castro Prieto is a photographer and photo developer.

A member of Agence VU since 2001, Castro Prieto received the Photography Award from the Community of Madrid in 2003 and the Bartolomé Ros Award from PHotoEspaña in 2002.

He is the author of several books, highlighted among them Extraños (Editorial Lunwerg, 2003) and Perú. Viaje al sol (Editorial Lunwerg, 2001).

Last year, he presented his work Etiopía (Ethiopia), an exhibition at Teatro Fernán Gómez Centro de Arte, the catalog for which was published by Lunwerg.

The artist is represented by Blanca Berlín Gallery in Madrid, and his work forms part of both public and private collections, including La Fundació Foto Colectania.

This year, Castro Prieto will lead a Campus PHE workshop, to take place in February. Castro Prieto spoke with PHE.es about his career, current projects and the ideas he will put into practice for his workshop.

Ricky Dávila studied photography at the International Center for Photography in New York. From 1991 to 2000, he collaborated with different national and international media. Interview with Ricky Dávila: “Photography is a wonderful life partner”

For Ricky Dávila (Bilbao, 1964), the final aim of every photograph is to create poetry, as his oeuvre demonstrates by consistently representing reality.

Having received some of the most prestigious awards, such as the World Press Photo 2nd Prize, the Fotopress and Ortega y Gasset Awards, Dávila explored journalism until 1995 when he definitively gave up news media to dedicate his career to more individual work.

Silvia Varela (A Coruña, 1979) studied her bachelors in Fine Arts at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She currently lives and works in Madrid.

Silvia´s works has been published in El País, El País Semanal, Marie Claire, Neo2, Vanidad, Telva, Cosmopolitan, Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair.

In January of 2009 she presented the exhibition From foreing lands and people... at the Espaciovalverde Gallery in Madrid.
